Pine Mountain is the “Gateway to Callaway Gardens,” so naturally, many of the best things to do are in Callaway. However, amongst the hills, are several other nature-inspired activities that are good for families or solo travelers.
Biking
Water views and Georgia foliage bring the trails in Callaway Gardens to the next level of awesome. The Discovery Bike Trail blends into nature, but has a conveniently paved 10 mile path. Bike rentals are available onsite from 10pm-6pm.
Hiking
The handful of trails in Callaway range in difficulty, so there’s something for everyone. We love the Azalea Trail, because it is short and sweet, with views of the gardens, and azaleas of course. Mountain Creek Trail runs by the water, so there’s some great places to stop and gaze.
Birds of Prey Show
In Callaway’s Discovery Amphitheater, the show educates visitors about beloved raptors, and how what we do has a direct effect on them. Birds that have been unable to be released back into their natural habitat have become “teachers” for the fantastic demonstration.
Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center
While technically indoors, this giant butterfly room allows guests to walk amongst trees and other indoor foliage filled with beautiful butterflies. You’ll get to see cocooning caterpillars and emerging butterflies as well.
Treetop Adventure and Zipline
Ten thrilling zip lines whip hundreds of feet through Callaway. Twenty more playground-like features include ladders, wires, logs, and netting which hang high up in the trees. Basic tickets run $35.
Wild Animal Safari
This one isn’t in Callaway Gardens! Guests are carted through 500 acres of exotic animals. Prepare yourself to be licked by giraffes or zebras, and expect plenty of other up close experiences.
Roosevelt Stables
Horse riding through the majestic hills of Pine Mountain should definitely be on your to do list. The guides are fantastic and skilled, providing excellent tips for new riders.
Pine Mountain Trail
Pine Mountain Trail is a lengthy hike with water features along the way. You’ll see plenty of pretty foliage along the somewhat challenging journey. Pack some snacks to enjoy by the cascading waterfalls.
