In the early 1900s, the Ponce City Market began serving Atlanta as a Sears headquarters. Now, as a mixed use building, it hosts a slew of amazing restaurants, boutiques and offices. But the most interesting feature sits on the roof.
With major Coney Island vibes, this rooftop, “board walk” style amusement park features a list of games like Derby Race, basketball, Skee Ball, ring toss and a few others. Designed for both kids and adults, it’s a great spot for a date, or a family night out.
Small rides like the Skyline Slide, and a free-fall tower reminiscent of Six Flags’ much larger Acrophobia, provide amazing views of the city. Each ride is just thrilling enough, while still being completely laid back. Still not up for jumping on? No worries, the views are great from anywhere on the rooftop, hence the name Skyline Park.
A sprawling, green mini golf course is front and center on the roof; it might be the most scenic game of put-put you’ll ever play. The course is easy enough, but with some fun challenges as well.
The food, as expected, is phenomenal; carnival and street foods get an upscale twist. Salted soft pretzels with beer cheese, braised beef tacos with guacamole, hotdogs with tomatillo Chow-chow, hot and spicy mixed nuts; this obviously isn’t the fair food we grew up on. If you’re looking for traditional dining, inside the Ponce City Market are restaurants that meet the most critical foodie expectations.
And what’s a good time in Atlanta without killer cocktails? The Skyline Mule with bourbon, gin, tequila, mint syrup and ginger beer or Pemberton’s Frozen Julep with mint infused bourbon, Coca-Cola, peach and lemon, are spot on. All the drinks sound unique and delicious. You can also hang at Nine Mile Station, a beer garden with plenty of craft brews and views.
Skyline Park is a fantastic use of space; in fact, all of the Ponce City Market is. An old building has been transformed into an Atlanta highlight, which depicts the sustainable route the city has begun to take. So have a drink, grab a pretzel, play some old fashioned games and live it up with your besties.
