Between 1882 to 1935, the Kingsley Grist Mill Airbnb was a functioning gristmill. Nearly a century after it stopped serving its original purpose it was converted into a unique vacation rental that caught the eye of the hosts on the Netflix series “The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals.” It was featured in Season 2, Episode 7.
Netflix isn’t the only one to notice Kingsley Gristmill. It’s so impressive, HGTV also featured this rental in its series “You Live in What?”
It has three bedrooms and two bathrooms along with a deck that hangs right over the Mill River. While the surrounded scenery is stunning all year round, in the fall, you’ll be able to enjoy views of the brilliant foliage.
It even has its own private beach, with tethered float tubes right on-site for a relaxing ride on the river which is Vermont’s warmest. Plus, there are two private decks that overlook the secluded waterfall and covered bridge too.
Architectural Digest chose it as one of the top seven best examples on Netflix. As the Airbnb description notes, it features “never before used architectural elements invented by the legendary covered bridge builder Nicholas Montgomery Powers.” If you’re a history buff, you’ll love it too.
Making it even more of a must-stay, you’ll be overnighting in America’s only original Grist Mill & Covered Bridge residence while experiencing an authentic slice of U.S. history.
Some of its oldest interior elements include the downstairs bathroom door which dates back to 1778 when the post-Revolutionary War Crary house was first constructed here on this very site. It includes the original grain bin entrance and grist mill doors along with fireside chairs from the 1920s too.
By booking this rental, not only will you get a rare look and opportunity to experience what’s often been featured on-screen and in countless publications, but as an added extra, a gourmet breakfast is included in your stay. New for 2022 is this French vanilla bean brioche breakfast pudding. Yum.
Although the Kingsley Grist Mill is a national historic site, there’s no need to worry about daytrippers interrupting your peaceful vacation by wandering onto the property. It’s off-limits to the public, designed exclusively for guests.
No wonder the Netflix hosts fell so head over heels for this one.
