Recently featured on the new Netflix series “The World’s Most Amazing Vacation Rentals,” the unique Come and Dream in Quetzalcoatl’s Nest rental in Mexico City must be seen to be believed. If you happened to catch the episode, one of your first thoughts was probably, “I MUST stay here!”
This place looks like it was taken from the pages of a Dr. Seuss book, set on a fantasy land with its own park that includes botanical gardens, lakes, and even a cave of minerals. There are water features and fantastical works of art spread throughout.
Located just northwest of Mexico City, the Airbnb rental was transformed from the feathered Aztec serpent god Quetzalcoatl and is shaped like a snake, built with curves that mimic nature while featuring striking circular windows. The grounds are impeccably landscaped, and also include a reflecting pool, greenhouse, and sculptures.
The snake-like structure includes 10 separate apartments spread over 16,500 square feet. It not only provides a tranquil oasis, but it’s the perfect place to pretend you’re a kid again, sleeping right in the belly of the serpent.
Conceived by clever architect Javier Senosiain, you won’t have to live like a snake — it comes with all the essential modern conveniences like cable TV, a full kitchen, and Wi-Fi. Coffee, fruit, and bread are all supplied, and you’ll have access to a laundry room too.
The host, Patricia, notes that the place is “perfect for anyone who loves nature, silence, woods, and architecture,” as well as those who simply want to recover and enjoy “its capacity to amaze.”
It can be enjoyed by small groups on retreats too, for writing, walking, yoga, meditating, or simply resting. She recommends bringing comfortable shoes and a jacket as temperatures tend to be lower here than in the city as the property is surrounded by woods.
Creativity abounds, while the meandering walkways twist in and out, providing magnificent views of the ravines and canyons, if you don’t mind standing in the jaws of the Aztec snake god.
Access to the gardens is available all day, while the park can be enjoyed between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Guests rave about the experience, something that really can’t be described in words or even with photos. Such as Ashley who wrote, “Not sure how you can blow extraordinary out of the water, but my experience far exceeded my expectations. It was just the retreat me and my boys needed and it all felt so aligned. A huge part of that alignment was Patricia herself — she has a wonderful energy about her and a wonderful ability to connect and show love. I’m just as grateful for her as I am for the nest.”
