Hidden in Mooresville, North Carolina is a beautiful swimming hole that was once a granite quarry. The natural, spring-fed pool of blue water is surrounded by granite cliffs and is now a perfect place to cool off on hot summer days. Diving into the quarry is a North Carolina past time that absolutely must be experienced when visiting the area.
The Quarry at Carrigan Farms is a 25-foot-deep pool of cool spring water that’s now a go-to destination for locals. Swimmers can jump from the rocks and splash into the cool, blue water or enter from the zero-entry beach. Because the quarry is so deep, children must wear a lifejacket while swimming at the quarry, while swimmers aged 12 and up can opt to take a swim test to swim without a lifejacket.
Before The Quarry became a summer destination, it was mined in the late 1960s for its granite stone, which was used to construct Interstate 77, which runs north and south through the state. However, once the natural spring was discovered, it was filled with water and became the locals’ favorite swimming hole.
Today, The Quarry sets specific dates for open swim when the public can come and enjoy the sapphire waters of this swimming hole. The cost is $12 per person and it’s recommended to check the Carrigan Farms website for open-swim dates.
In addition to select dates for open swim, the park is available for private swim parties and offers a covered pavilion equipped to host everything from birthday parties to weddings from March through November.
