The beautiful resort community of White Lake is focused on the body of water from which it gets its name. Located in the Southeastern part of the state, this family-friendly North Carolina town has a very small population of fewer than 1,000 people but sees up to 200,000 visitors each summer. With approximately 1,200 acres of water and an average temperature of 63 degrees, it’s the perfect spot for your next vacation, whether you want to spend it on the water or on land.
Even though you’re in the heart of North Carolina when you visit White Lake, you’ll feel like you’re on a tropical island because of the lake’s white sand and crystal clear water. It’s unlike anything you’ll see at most other lakes but is due to the fact that the lake is fed by subterranean springs.
Because of this, there is also no riptide and no current, meaning it’s a safe place to swim for people of all ages and swimming abilities. In fact, it’s been named “The Nation’s Safest Beach.”
The most obvious draw to the area is the watersports. The lake offers plenty of opportunities to waterski, wakeboard, jet ski, swim, and go boating. Plus, there’s an entire water park located in White Lake as well. The park features a 50-foot-tall, 210-foot-long twisting slide, a 600-foot lazy river, a 2,000-square-foot swimming pool, 100,000-gallon wave pool, kiddie slides, bumper boat pool, and much more.
If you prefer to have your fun on land, you can check out the miniature golf course, race go-karts at White Lake Go Kart, or for a bit of historical fun, tour the Harmony Hall Plantation in nearby White Oak. The 1760’s-era, fully-restored home is one of the oldest residences in North Carolina and is open for tours.
