Are you looking for a unique outdoor adventure in Florida? Safari Wilderness in Lakeland offers just that, a place where you can have an up close and personal experience with a range of fascinating animals. Surrounded by bay trees and cypress domes, you can escape the hustle and bustle of the city and watch animals roam through this peaceful open vista. From kayaking tours to camel expeditions, this is one of the most captivating destinations in the Sunshine State.
Located between Tampa and Orlando, the dramatic landscape features a handful of exclusive tours. Here you will not only have a once-in-a-lifetime memory and educational experience but also a rare chance to encounter and feed endangered animals.
Worlds away from any theme park attraction in Florida, Safari Wilderness Ranch is home to large herds of exotic game throughout its rugged landscapes and 260 acres of wilderness. You can choose from a handful of unique experiences, from spotting wild herds grazing the lush landscape to feeding ring-tailed lemurs or going on one of their fascinating kayak and sunset safari tours.
There are plenty of places to kayak throughout Florida, but none are like this. Adventurers can paddle through the freshwater areas and get close-up encounters with a variety of wetland species such as Defassa waterbuck, red lechwe, bald eagles and herons. Along the tour, you’ll be able to stop at lemur island and have a chance to hand-feed grapes to these curious creatures.
If you want to go on the special Sunset Safari tours you’ll have to visit in summer from June through August. On the tour, you can explore the expansive Savanna and get up close to Scimitar-horned oryx, zebra and Watusi cattle. The animals are most active during sunset, which means it’s the perfect time to feed the animals from a Safari Truck. A highlight of the tour, you’ll be able to stop at the Tree House, a spacious deck that provides 360-degree views of the preserve, where you can sit back and stargaze while enjoying a beautiful landscape of roaming herds.
Other tours on the preserve include a Vehicle Safari tour with stadium seating and a Camel Expedition, both offering unique interactions with magnificent herds of game animals. Focused on the sensitivity of the area and its animals, Safari Wilderness Ranch limits its amount of visitors per day and leads an array of conservation programs.
