Some of the whales seem to seek out interaction, swimming directly to the boats and even bringing new calves with them, lifting them up as if to introduce them to humans while enjoying a nice head rub too. They can be seen between mid-January and mid-April before heading north to Alaska on their annual migration, but the optimal time is from mid-February through early March.
